Rarible DAO updates - June 14, 2021
Two great presentations by Cyber and Strata Gallery, product updates, discussion of next steps in DAO design and NFT news.
This newsletter covers important updates going on in the ecosystem (most importantly, the weekly community call). You can re-watch them on our YouTube channel or by checking out last week’s video below.
Short updates
We will be present at Hackmoney starting June 18th. We’re excited to see what new projects come out of this Hackathon.
We have a new Rarible DAO Youtube channel. Subscribe to receive our community calls, developer calls, and more.
During this call, we used PicNic (a Rarible ecosystem project) to claim a POAP badge.
TWO new proposals have been posted in Snapshot for voting! Take a look, and cast your vote.
One new proposal in the forum.
Guest project showcases
We had 2 interesting teams from the wider NFT space over to introduce their projects.
Rayan joined us to discuss Cyber. Cyber is one of the easiest ways to share NFTs in 3D spaces. You can use it to display your NFTs/Artworks in a “destination” of your choosing. As a user you connect to Metamask, select a destination, and place your selected NFTs into the space. You can then easily share the link to your space to showcase your NFTs.
Some spaces now also operate as galleries. Furthermore, Cyber is empowering 3D artists to create and share 3D experiences and spaces which can serve as destinations. These destinations can be tokenized, becoming NFTs of their own
Cyber is pushing the ‘concept’ of the metaverse forward by driving diversity in graphics of spaces and experiences. An exciting project to keep an eye on!
We had Jasper and Barak over from Strata Gallery. Strata Gallery is a gallery that wants to bring together physical and digital art and create new interactive art experiences. Strata Gallery is onboarding artists from the traditional world to the blockchain. The aim is to use blockchain technology to remove barriers between the artists and the audience. The team showcased their first project, ‘Whole picture’ created in collaboration with Héctor Falcón. Different layers of canvases can be moved around both in the physical and digital space.
A cool new interactive/dynamic NFT project! Owners of the digital pieces also directly enter into a raffle to get a part of the physical piece.
Updates from Alex:
New feature:
Until now, newcomers to the NFT space had to purchase crypto on an exchange and send their funds to a wallet. This is no longer needed on Rarible! Users can now add funds to their Rarible account with a credit card.
Updates from Eric on DAO design & evolution
See associated forum post here.
Eric discussed the next steps in DAO evolution. The end goal for the Rarible DAO is to be fully decentralized. We will get there in stages.
Soon, we will launch staking which will include delegation. This means that community members will be able to delegate their voting power to ‘Stewards’ which will vote on proposals on their behalf. Token holders, therefore, do not need to vote on each proposal. Token holders will be rewarded (with staking rewards) for selecting delegates that are active.
During the call, several things were discussed: It is important that delegates self-report and that they are transparent over what is happening. Furthermore, we need to make sure that there is a proper representation of the end-users.
This is still a work in progress, and updates will follow in due time.
