Rarible DAO updates - Week of August 16 2021
We launched app mining, sneak peek into awesome upcoming features for the protocol, updates from our working groups
This newsletter covers important updates going on in the ecosystem (most importantly, the weekly community call). You can re-watch them on our YouTube channel or by checking out last week’s video below.
Governance proposals
Rarible Protocol Compensation guidelines (LINK): Passed
These compensation guidelines will serve as a benchmark and help set expectations for future hires. This will very helpful as we grow the Rarible DAO working groups.

Officially launching App mining
On the 19th of August, we released the App Mining program! With App Mining, $RARI distributions have changed. Ownership of the protocol is now also being distributed to NFT applications building on the protocol. They can redistribute some of these tokens to their users at their own discretion.
We believe this is a big turning point, which will help us deliver on our mission:
“To empower builders to easily innovate by creating the building blocks needed for them to succeed, while fostering a collaborative and positive-sum environment that is fair, transparent, and enriching.”

Product updates by Alex
Rarible.com now shows collections and sales from across the ecosystem. In the past, this was limited to rarible.com sales. This feature will also be available on the protocol using the indexer.
Upcoming:
Filters have been a highly requested feature. Very soon you will be able to filter rarible.com based on category, collection, sale type, and price range. Furthermore, rarible.com will have a trait filter (Great for collectibles 👀). Note that these features will be available at the protocol level, which means that other applications building on our protocol can benefit from them also!
The team is working on allowing the payment in ETH instead of wETH. With ETH, the bids will be binding, and the orderbook will be on-chain. Soon also, we will be able to bid towards an entire collection using the protocol (e.g. for I want to buy any punk for 30ETH). 🔥
In line with this, you will soon be able to trade punks on the protocol natively. This was not possible in the past.
Working group updates
The DAO is operating in a working group (WG) based model, with different areas of specialization. The areas include Communications, Operations, Developer Relations, and Business Development (to be established). As these groups mature, we want them to operate autonomously and to be accountable to the DAO.
Updates from the groups:
Communications WG
The communications WG aims to spread the word about all the amazing projects, developers, and people that are part of the Rarible Protocol ecosystem.
On top of the newsletter, we are working on ramping up our efforts.
We started a series of interviews with founders building on top of the Protocol. Watch the first episode with CocoNFT here. We will soon release our interview with Mintgate.
We are working on ad-hoc articles (e.g. App mining, more to come)
On top of in-house content, we are also looking to join several external podcasts!
Operations WG
The focus of the Operations WG is people (which includes community management, discord, onboarding, etc) and treasury (accounting, grants). The team does the day-to-day to keep our ecosystem healthy.
With the protocol release, the main focus is to augment the onboarding process of contributors and developers. This includes improving the notion and the forum. In terms of treasury management, the team is looking into automation and increasing the treasury’s transparency.
Developer relations WG
We are in the process of growing the developer relations working group. Furthermore, we are thinking of starting a lab of sorts, with a set of in-house developers that can experiment and support projects building on top of the protocol. If you know anyone who would be a good candidate, let us know!
Business Dev / Growth WG
Similarly, we want to expand our business development. This team will do outreach, find new prospective projects and help grow the ecosystem.
We are looking for more contributors. If you are interested, please hop into the discord group, and let us know in the #looking-to-contribute channel.
Project updates
Last week Creator Collective launched their art competition. There’s still time to participate in the NFT Art competition!
Thanks everyone! Remember to join the conversation on Discord, or in our Forum :)
Special thanks to Cana for the art used for this week's video & newsletter image cover.
